Draycott Browne Secured Acquittal for Company Director Accused in Multi-Million Pound Investment Fraud

FRAUD CASE SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDED

On the 21st March 2025, following a trial which commenced before Southwark Crown Court on the 16th September 2024, our client GM, was acquitted of Conspiracy to Defraud by the jury.

The fraud was an alleged “Ponzi Scheme” whereby investors were duped into investing approximately £5 million into what was described as “claims litigation funding” with a high rate of return.

Very few claims were actually completed, and indeed the claims simply did not exist in the volume asserted by the company offering the investment. Despite this the company continued to take money from investors.

Through careful analysis of the evidence and detailed instruction taking, we were able to demonstrate that our client, despite being a Director of the offending company, was himself hoodwinked into believing that it was both a credible and legitimate business such that he was not guilty of fraud.

We are extremely pleased that the jury agreed with our analysis of the case and found our client not guilty.
