Counterfeiting & Forgery Defence Lawyers

Our solicitors are experts in Counterfeiting and Forgery Defence. We provide clear and strategic legal reprenetation for individuals and businesses facing allegations involving forged documents, counterfeit items or false instruments.

From the earliest stage of an investigation, we act quickly to protect your position, advise you on your rights and establish precisely what investigators are alleging. We begin examining the evidence immediately so that a robust defence can be developed around the facts of your case.

Counterfeiting and forgery allegations can have serious consequences for your liberty, finances, business interests and reputation.

Investigations may focus on how a document or item was created, altered, obtained, possessed or used and what you knew about its authenticity. Evidence can include documents, handwriting or signatures, printing materials, digital files, electronic devices, financial records and communications between those alleged to be involved. Careful examination of this material can be critical when determining whether the evidence supports the allegations being made against you.

Our solicitors can represent you during interviews under caution, manage communication with investigators and scrutinise the evidence relied upon to connect you with the alleged offence. We examine issues surrounding authenticity, knowledge, possession and intended use while identifying inconsistencies or weaknesses in the prosecution case.

Every case is approached with technical precision and strategic focus. We build a bespoke defence strategy around your individual circumstances and the evidence rather than making assumptions based simply on your connection to a document, item or transaction.

Early legal representation can have a significant influence on the direction of a counterfeiting or forgery investigation. Decisions made during an interview or when responding to requests for documents and information may affect how the case develops and the evidence ultimately relied upon against you.

Expert Support

We have defended clients facing serious fraud and dishonesty allegations since 1998. Our fraud department is led by Rob Mann, Director and Head of Fraud, whose extensive experience in fraud investigations provides senior strategic oversight in cases involving disputed documents, financial evidence and allegations of deliberate deception.

Our team combines determination with the technical expertise and legal precision needed to analyse substantial documentary and digital evidence. We carefully test the prosecution case and challenge assumptions about knowledge, intention and involvement wherever the evidence allows.

If you are being investigated for counterfeiting or forgery or believe an investigation may be imminent, contact our Counterfeiting and Forgery Defence Solicitors today for urgent and confidential legal advice.

How I Take Control of the Investigation

Robert Mann | Fraud Defence Lawyer

"I don't believe in waiting for the prosecution to make the first move. Success in fraud defence is built in the months before you ever step into a courtroom. We use that time to dismantle the case against you piece by piece, auditing every document and challenging every assumption. When we take control, we aren't just reacting to the investigation; we are leading it."

We are able to provide you with a first-class defence having successfully defended numerous clients facing similar charges for the full range of counterfeiting and forgery offences including:

  • Forging documents

We have a wealth of experience liaising with investigating agencies like Trading Standards, HMRC and the CPS and will keep you updated at all stages to minimise the stress and worry that such procedures can cause.

Forgery

Forgery is the process of making, copying or using a ‘false instrument’, which can include a document, signature, banknote or another object of value like a piece of artwork, with the intent of deceiving another.

Documents that can be the object of forgery include but are not limited to:

  • Passports
  • Driving Licenses
  • ID cards
  • Contracts
  • Legal certificates like birth, marriage and death certificates
  • Cheques
  • Bank cards

Counterfeiting

Counterfeiting is the process of creating replicas of an item with the intent of passing them off as the original or genuine articles. Counterfeiting is ordinarily, although not always, associated with items that are produced en-masse such as money and other items including consumer goods like:

  • Electronics
  • Designer goods including clothes, handbags and watches
  • Cigarettes
  • Toys
  • Music

What are the penalties?

If you are found guilty of counterfeiting or forgery then you will be charged with the crime of fraud. Allegations of such crimes are taken extremely seriously under UK law and can include a custodial sentence of up to 10 years as well as substantial fines.

Such offences can also be extremely damaging to your reputation, your business and your livelihood.
