SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION FOR LEAVE TO APPEAL AGAINST CONVICTIONS AND SENTENCE - JUNE 2022

MOLD CROWN COURT

On the 17th May 2019, at Mold Crown Court, KJ was convicted of attempted rape, false imprisonment and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was subsequently sentenced to serve a term of 10 years imprisonment.

We did not represent KJ at the time of his trial. After sentence, however, he instructed our Mr. Draycott to offer him advice and assistance in relation to his intended appeal.

Mr. Draycott reviewed the entire circumstances of the case together with a series of transcripts from the trial. An application for leave to appeal against conviction and sentence was lodged but subsequently refused. Mr. Draycott advised KJ to renew his applications and on Wednesday the 8th June 2022, the applications were heard before the Court of Appeal.

Following representations made by David Emanuel QC, in the presence of Mr. Draycott, the full Court of Appeal granted leave to KJ to appeal against both conviction and sentence.

The full Court of Appeal will consider KJ’s case later this year and as a result no further information will be provided at this point.
